Regain Records Sign Sweden’s Necronaut.

After more than 20 active years within the death metal scene, former Dismember/Carnage drummer Fred Estby needed to express his passion for different kinds of extreme music; a passion he’s bore since his youth. In 2008, Estby started writing/recording material with the intention of utilizing one unique vocalist for each song. Dubbed Necronaut, the project would become a reality just one year later when the drummer began contacting the many talented metal musicians he had in mind.

Estby is currently finalizing the self-titled Necronaut full-length, slated for release later this year via Regain Records. The already-completed cover art was created by Chet Zar, known for his makeup effects for movies such as The Ring, Planet of the Apes and Darkman [http://www.chetzar.com]. Musically, Necronaut is a raw slab of old-school metal and while the term “old-school” alone goes a long way in accurately describing the sound that one should expect from Estby and Co., the project is so much more. Necronaut’s approach is crude and dead simple a la early Bathory and Venom fused with Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, but with an unorthodox, bass-heavy production that allows the album to stand out amongst its peers. The goal was primitive brute force, but because of the manner in which Estby chose to achieve it, he also managed to create an aura of pure malevolence that, prior to this album’s creation, was likely difficult to imagine. D.I.S. to release debut full-length album.

D.I.S. will release their first full-length album entitled, Critical Failure, this spring via Deep Six Records. The 10-song record was tracked by John Haddad ( Intronaut, Hirax, Abysmal Dawn, Winterthrall) at Trench Studios in Corona, CA.

D.I.S. will be heading out on a U.S. tour in support of their new record later this summer and have several split releases in the works. For more information, goto the band’s Myspace page HERE.

Levi/Werstler new track online.

Daath guitarists Emil Werstler and Eyal Levi new side project Levi/Werstler has teamed up with Guitarworld.com to release the new track, “Loathsome Little Fiend”. The track is off the upcoming album entitled, Avalanche of Worms, that is due out on April 20th via Magna Carta Records.

New England Metal and Hardcore Festival 2010 dates.

The 12th annual New England Metal and Hardcore Festival 2010 dates have been set for April 23rd and 24th with a pre-party to kick off the event on the 22nd. No line up has been announced yet but with the recent announcement of  Mastodon’s headlining U.S. tour, the April 23rd date will apparently be headlined by them. . Sevendust new song posted online.

Dave Ellefson returns to Megadeth

Megadeth have announced that  Dave Ellefson will be returning to the line up, the band posted this via Myspace, the statement can be seen below.

Megadeth founder and frontman Dave Mustaine has announced the return of original bassist David Ellefson (1983-2002) to the iconic multi-platinum group.  This reunion is appropriately timed toMegadeth’s upcoming historic month-long Rust In Peace 20th anniversary tour which launches March 1 in Spokane, WA.  At these incredibly special shows, Megadeth will play their landmark, genre-defining 1990 album Rust In Peace in its entirety, in addition to other Megadeth favorites.

“This shows the power of brotherly love and forgiveness,” Mustaine says.  “David Ellefson belongs in Megadeth. Next we are going to show you the power of getting your asses kicked…HARD!”

David Ellefson concurs: “This is a huge moment for all of us, band and fans alike. It is a great celebration of the music from one of the biggest landmark albums of our career.”

Ellefson will join Mustaine and Megadeth band members Shawn Drover (drums) and Chris Broderick (guitar) on tour in support of the group’s current CD Endgame, which has received some of the highest critical accolades of the band’s career.

“Time Waits For No Slave”, the new album from NAPALM DEATH, sold around 1,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD debuted at No. 19 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Time Waits For No Slave” entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 95. The CD, which was released in the U.S. on February 10 via Century Media Records, was recorded with producer Russ Russell. Drums were tracked at Parlour Studios in Kettering and guitars, bass and vocals were done at Foel Studios in Wales. The band then returned to Parlour for the mixing sessions.

THE HAUNTED kicked off its North American headlining tour on April 2 at The Glass House in Pomona, California. Support on the trek was provided by THE AGONIST and MERAUDER.

The band’s latest album, “Versus”, sold around 1,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. ”Versus” entered the Swedish chart at position No. 14 and the Finnish chart at No. 12The CD was recorded in part at PUK studio in Denmark with producer Tue Madsen (HEAVEN SHALL BURN, DARK TRANQUILLITY, MOONSPELL, etc), who previously worked with the group on its two most recent LPs, “rEVOLVEr” (2004) and “The Dead Eye” (2006).

SUICIDE SILENCE is headlining the second stage of the Music As A Weapon IV tour alongside DISTURBED,KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, LACUNA COIL and CHIMAIRA, among others. This will be followed with a stint on the “Canadian Carnage” tour this June with SLAYER, MEGADETH and MACHINE HEAD. 

SUICIDE SILENCE recently posted a new song “Lifted” on the band’s MySpace page. The track comes off the group’s new album, “No Time To Bleed”, which is scheduled for release on June 30 via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded with acclaimed producer Machine (LAMB OF GOD).

AS I LAY DYING’s first-ever DVD, “This Is Who We Are”, sold 4,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 2 on the Top Music Videos chart. It also debuted at No. 3 in Canada, where the DVD has already shipped platinum. 

Commented AS I LAY DYING frontman Tim Lambesis: “I’m completely honored to have our DVD reach so many people in only its first week out. Needless to say, it’s a great achievement for our band, but it also goes to show that metal music has been opening new doors. Regardless of what mainstream media pushes, there are enough diehard fans out there to make something like this happen.”
